A) An image of your best piece of creative work before coming to this course:
This is the first of a series of eight oil paintings that I created for my HSC Visual Arts major work. My body of work documented the 50 year history of the Ford Falcon. I was influenced by Australian artist Ben Quilty and mimicked his method of thickly applying oil paint to canvas with a pallet knife. I particularly like this painting as I find the style of the car interesting and much different to cars of today. The simple black and white colour scheme also interests my eye and gives a historic feel to the image.
B) A great piece of architecture:
Fallingwater or Kaufmann Residence is a house designed in 1935 by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It is built over a waterfall in a forest in Pennsylvania, USA. I particularly like modernist architecture, where buildings follow bold, simple lines and the structural elements form part of the aesthetics. Despite being a man made structure surrounded by nature, I believe this building and its environment blend seamlessly and enhance the beauty of each other.
C) An original photograph of something beautiful:
This item is a citrus juicer, designed by Philippe Starck. A drinking glass is placed beneath the point and a halved citrus fruit is twisted on the top. I like this item because it is functional as a juicer, yet it can be put on display as a piece of art. Despite being designed in 1990, it looks as if it could be from the 1950's or even an object sent from the distant future. The combination of form and function, as well as the timeless design is what I believe makes it beautiful.
